Welcome to A Brewed Awakening

Celebrating the Autumn Equinox

The Autumn Equinox marks the first day of the 🍂 Fall Season 🍂 for the Northern Hemisphere.

The beautiful changing foliage 🍁, the cooler weather 🍃, Halloween 🎃 and Thanksgiving 🦃 Such an exciting season and definitely one that deserves to be celebrated 🙌

The equinox occurs when the north and south poles of the Earth are not tilted towards or away from the sun, as it usually is, which results in the day and night being equal lengths. After the Autumn Equinox, the days start getting shorter and the nights get longer.

Maxine Noel's Spirit of Autumn
The changing of the season not only represents our move around the sun but also a spiritual or mindful change. Autumn is the time that yields the harvest of the seeds sown in the earlier months in preparation of the colder days to come.

Different cultures around the world celebrate the Autumn Equinox in different ways. Pagans celebrate Mabon. People of the Jewish faith celebrate Sukkot. Creating something meaningful with your family and friends, you just can't go wrong! Here are some fun ways for you and your family to celebrate the Autumn Equinox.

Start the day with yoga and meditation

Take the time to reconnect and bring back inner balance with yourself as you transition into a new season. Even just 5 minutes of meditation can help relax and clear the brain. Stretching, especially during the colder weather, can help us extend our postures when all we usually want to do is curl up in a ball under the covers!

Take a walk

Get outside and connect. This is the first day of fall! Get out and smell the air. Hunt for changing leaves.

Count your blessings

Autumn is the time to reap what you've sown. Make a gratitude list as a way of reaping your inner harvest. Write down all the things you are grateful for. An attitude of gratefulness helps bring more abundance your way! What are you grateful for?

Share a story about Autumn

Try to research your cultures Autumn myths and stories. Share stories of Autumns past with your loved ones. Go to your local library and find some good stories about Autumn!

Purge and Smudge

New season, new you. Time to declutter your space! Doing a deep clean and getting rid of the things not needed will give you a since of accomplishment and help open up space for new things.

Smudging
Smudging is the practice of burning herbs like sage, lavender, sweet grass, etc. This is a way to cleanse your space of bad energy. Before beginning, develop a mantra or blessing to say as you go from room to room. Open all the windows, light your smudge stick, and slowly walk the perimeter of the room. Repeat in each room of the house. The smoke carries the bad vibes outside and you are left with a more balanced space!

Decorate your home

Add fall decor to welcome in the season! Put up the crafts your family and you did. Here are some other great ideas to help decorate your home for the season:

Have a feast

Make a Fall Harvest meal. Shop local, seasonal ingredients to cook! This is a perfect opportunity to visit your local farmer's market and get fresh ingredients.  I've pinned a few great dishes to try out:
