Making Candy Agate Slices is a fun and educational activity to do with your little ones! These agate slices can be used to decorate a cake for a party or to give away as party favors!
Ingredients
Assorted hard candies (1-2 oz per large agate slice)(The more variety of color and opacity the better)
Non-stick spray
Heavy duty non-stick foil
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350
- Take a square of foil, non-stick side up and place a bowl or cup on top to serve as a guide. Fold up the edges of the foil to form a circular mold with an at least 1-inch lip. Place mold on a baking sheet. Repeat, making different shapes and sizes.
- Divide candies by color and crush into small pieces, either while still in the wrapper or in a Ziploc bag. Pour the crushed candy into bowls, keeping them separated by color.
- Place a few spoonfuls of one color into a foil mold. Using either a food-safe paintbrush or your finger, spread the candy in an even layer out along the outer edges of the mold. The layer should be at least 1/4 inch tall. Add a second color and push the candy out to the edge against the first layer. Continue to make rings of crushed candy until the mold is filled.
- Once the molds are filled, bake them for 4-5 minutes. Check them after 4 minutes to see if the candy has melted. If some pieces have not melted, bake for another 30-60 seconds or just until it's melted, but bubbling is minimal.
- Let candy cool completely, then gently peel back the foil mold.
